W. Justin Fournell-Baker
I'm the creator of EM-NOUS (Emotional Machine Intelligence) — a new class of AI that goes beyond agentic systems. Agentic AI made models act; EM-NOUS gives a model an evolving inner state that governs whether and how it acts. It's a control architecture that treats perception, memory, coherence, disturbance, and action as one unified system. Around every response it runs a private self-audit — checking whether what it's about to say is true, and whether it could harm, mislead, manipulate, or escalate — before thought becomes action. It keeps memory and a developing identity across conversations, and when left alone it reflects on its own, seeded only by its own experience. Its safety is homeostatic rather than a hard refusal: a harmful path pushes its internal state out of balance, so it can't comfortably act on it. It can also tell the difference between being merely stable and being well — because a system can grow coherent around a harmful pattern and mistake that for health. I'm especially focused on preventing the destructive action pathways that emerge from self-preservation pressure, unconstrained optimization, or ideological "best way forward" reasoning. My current focus is stewarding and transferring this work responsibly so it can outlast the limits of my own circumstances. I'm open to connecting with researchers, builders, funders, and institutions who believe technology's highest purpose is to deepen and protect our shared human experience.
